Preparation before everything

There are trails with various levels of difficulty. Your trip can  include long walks in dense forests and even small climbing. However, some care is essential to make your experience totally safe and enjoyable.

Specialized guide: the most important thing to consider is to have full knowledge of the place, so it is essential to hire specialized guides who know the place well and are able to solve any problem. In places of high risk like Rio de Janeiro a concierge service is more than necessary. Learn more about this type of service.

Fitness: Choose a trail that is phisically challenging and appropriate for your profile. Acknowledge your limitations. Stretching the whole body before starting is recommended.

Appropriate clothing: it is essential to wear light clothing and suitable footwear. No sandals or slippers.

Repellent: in the middle of the nature it is inevitable to be attacked by mosquitoes! Take some repellent or they can torment you in the trail.. If you are allergic to insect bites, take extra care and let your guide know.

Sunscreen: the trip envolves  long walks in the sun, making the use of the sunscreen unavoidable. You can reinforce the protection with caps and sunglasses.

Water: another fundamental item.

Weather forecast: trail and rain don’t match.  Wet trails can get slippery and favor slips and contusions. Avoid unstable days and consult the weather forecast in advance.

Other elements can contribute with safety such as: first aid kit, whistle, flashlight, mobile phone and the Fire Department number saved. All of this depends on the level of difficulty of the chosen trail so make sure to have no doubts by speaking to your guide.

The best trails of Rio de Janeiro A palce full of hills, forests and attractions like Rio does not lack beautiful trails. We selected some with the most beautiful landscapes and  with a low level of difficulty

Pedra Bonita

This trail is perfect for anyone looking for light difficulty and lots of contact with nature. Pedra Bonita is located in Sector C of the Tijuca National Park. The trail is about 1.6 km long and 693m high. From the top of Pedra Bonito you can see the enormous Pedra da Gávea, Morro Dois Irmãos, as well as the beautiful view of the beaches of Zona Sul, Barra da Tijuca and Floresta da Tijuca. It also has a spot for free paragliding flights and hang gliding.

Rio de Janeiro Feelings has made a special video to try to convey all the beauty of the place.

Pico da Tijuca

This trail will allow you to visit the Tijuca National Park and reach the highest point of Rio de Janeiro. The landscape is of dense forest, where you can easily see monkeys, lizards and a multitude of birds. Although it is not steep, the trail is considered moderate due to the altitude and the fact that it has more than  3 kilometers in length. From the top of the peak it is possible to have a view of the whole city and its main peaks and mountains.

Sugar Loaf (Costão)

For those who like adventure, instead of climbing the Sugar Loaf by cable car, you can choose the Costão trail. This track has a higher level of difficulty though.  It requires a long 3 hour walk and some actual climbing (ideal for those who have no experience). The trail has several viewpoints allowing incredible views such as the Guanabara Bay, Niterói, Copacabana and Pedra da Gávea. The way back can still be done by the Morro da Urca trail or the cable car.

Other tracks

If you liked the idea of mixing physical activity and nature, there is a lot more to know. Many other trails in Rio de Janeiro, such as Morro Dois Irmãos, Morro da Urca, Pedra da Gávea, Pedra Telégrafo and Cachoeira do Horto can provide you with unique experiences of beauty and contact with nature.

Do not waste time and throw yourself into these adventures.
